Myriad Pharmaceuticals is developing Flurizan(TM), a novel treatment for Alzheimer’s that is believed to treat the underlying cause of the disease. This investigational therapy could represent a significant advance in treatment, as current medicines for Alzheimer’s only treat the symptoms of the disease. Flurizan is being tested in the Act-Earli-ADTM trial, which is the longest and largest Phase 3 trial for Alzheimer’s disease ever conducted.
Spectrum Science Communications partnered with Myriad to raise awareness of the trial and the opportunity for people with mild disease to participate in potentially breakthrough research. Our goal was to recruit 1,600 patients with mild Alzheimer’s disease into the trial over a time period of nine months.
To raise awareness of the trial and pique consumers’ interest in Flurizan, Spectrum developed a multifaceted communications program through a blend of media outreach, advertising, direct mail and direct-to-patient communications. Working with local investigators, patients and caregivers, Spectrum conducted a national and local
media blitz in more than 50 markets to generate widespread awareness of the trial.
Spectrum successfully recruited 1,600 early-Alzheimer’s patients into the Act-Earli-AD trial in nine months. Our media outreach and successful placement of patient and investigator stories drove awareness of Flurizan and the trial, generating over 350 million media impressions and 1,470 stories, including coverage in AP, Forbes, USAToday.com, BusinessWeek.com and MSNBC.com.
